I don't like showers. (The gifting kind, not the wet, clean kind.) They make me uncomfortable. Gifts and registries and fuss, it all stresses me out. Not for other people, mind you. I like participating in showers for other people. But for myself...panic attacks.
And then I attended the fanciest baby shower of all time. And it was for me! Every single guest - and especially the Guest of Honor - was blown away by the depth and detail that went into this party.
Four of my dear girlfriends came together to throw such a fete, and it is worth noting that they didn't know each other very well. All four knew of each other, and had maybe met a few times, but they weren't friends. What they had in common was ME. That makes all this even more magical.
The theme was Alice In Wonderland. Which is perfect for me in so many ways. I suspect this was their choice because I love to throw tea parties. Everyone was asked to bring a tea cup. This is to be Pigtail's first tea set. Isn't that clever?
The party was at my friend Cyndi's house. *sigh* Cyndi's house. It is one of the most personal houses I've ever been in. Everything is carefully chosen. You could spend hours at her coffee table among the stacks of photo books she makes of her family. Look at them all! Heaven.
But back to the shower...the theme was everywhere.
And the food. Oh, the food!
The truffle grilled cheese was my favorite. But then there was also...
People just wanted to cry, really.
Dr. Pepper is my favorite thing in the world, so they made it into floats! And, look - they're even calling her Pigtail. Well, it is her name, after all.
I always worry that people won't come to these events. But the ladies showed up! From all across the city they descended upon this feast to celebrate my baby girl. A few of my pretty friends:
And they brought presents!
(Your attire is limited when you're 8 months pregnant. I refer to my dress here as the 70's nightgown look.)
There were no games, because that kind of thing makes me nervous. But there were fun activities!
It was one of the most special days of my life.
Cyndi, Melissa, Rachel, and Shanna: Thank you for doing this for me and for Pigtail. I hope you know how much it was appreciated.
xoxo, laura
(check back tomorrow for more on the shower including the most creative gifts and what I gave the hostesses.)
Photo credits to Cyndi (who, among other things, is a photographer) and Rachel (who breathes creativity) and just a few I snapped myself (who still doesn't know how to use the camera properly).

Oh, I wish I could have been there! What beautiful friends you have.

To die for. What a fantastic celebration. Note: I will, without a doubt, steal the teacup idea. Shameless.

Cyndi is amazing. What a gift she has. And I always thought that ceiling in the dining room was do great, but she's just outdone herself with this beautiful, wonderfully thought out party. I am so happy for you, sissy.

Beyond words. Beauty! Such beauty. The Dr Pepper floats are just incredible. SO YOU. Clearly these women know you so very well. This is just almost more darling than I can bear. Almost.
Cyndi, Melissa, Rachel, and Shanna - amazing job! Truly the fanciest, most thoughtful baby shower ever.
