Let me start by saying how much I love C.S. Lewis. I adore him and his writing. Just seeing his name gives me the warm fuzzies, such is the power of his words.
Yesterday I re-read the classic Narnia book The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Of course I read it when I was a child. I've even visited what is said to be the "real" wardrobe that inspired the passage the children used to stumble into the magical world of Narnia.
It's a quick read, I did it in just a few hours. I have a general rule that I don't re-read certain stories if there is even a chance they won't hold up to how they hit me originally. Maybe I should have applied the rule to this classic.
I chose to re-read it for sentimental reasons. I'm glad I did. But it's pretty cheesy, the allegory very obvious, and if you're not in a playful mood...well, it's not Lewis' most thought-provoking work.
Still, the name and description of Aslan gave me chills. As it should. All these years later.

Ever read Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Patterson? It's still sooooo good. So is Jacob Have I Loved, also by Patterson.
