I hate to be one of the psycho, eye-roll-worthy moms, but don't you think SHE already looks beautiful? I think her little profile is about the most amazing thing I've ever seen.
When you tell someone you're pregnant, the first question is always "When are you due?" and the second question seems to be "Are you going to find out?" And most of they time they ask it just like that. As if the only thing in the world to "find out" about your precious little one is tied to the genitalia.
I understand why people want to know. Knowing the gender helps everyone to identify with the baby, and to create - in your head at least - a picture of the new family. There was never a question in my mind whether or not I wanted to know the gender of my baby before birth. I'm too much of a planner. I've had plenty of surprises during the pregnancy, thankyouverymuch, that I don't need one of that magnitude.
Before you know the gender, everyone wants to know if you have a preference or an instinct, and they often throw in their own thoughts on the matter. Not that it matters, but my "instinct" was screwed up from the beginning.
Before I got pregnant, I was completely sure I would have a little girl first. It just made sense to me. Same with The Gorilla. I think this is probably because we both had nieces first, are very attached to them, and could only picture ourselves in the same path as our older siblings. But then, when I got pregnant, almost instantly I was sure it was a boy. "Isn't that interesting?" I thought to myself. "What a surprise!"
Clearly, with last week's big news, I have no idea what to make of my maternal instinct. It's off already! I can't say I was shocked enough to fall off the table or anything. In the weeks leading up to the big determining ultrasound, I had started having dreams about the baby, and in the dreams it was always a little girl. So I guess dreams do hold all the answers.
I'm glad we know. I'm glad it's a little girl. And more than anything, I'm glad that all signs point to her growing and thriving in there. I will never get over this miracle!

It is absolutely and utterly NOT psycho to look at that teeny little girl growing in there and declare her beautiful. She'll be the prettiest one in the hospital nursery, you know this, right? And the prettiest amongst all of the children of your friends and in her class and . . . and . . .
I have to say that my premonition was strongest with Dacey. I just knew she was a girl and my dreams confirmed it. Could NOT have been more wrong with AJ. So I like to think it has less to do with maternal instinct and more to do with 50/50 odds of correctness.
So many congrats (again). Do tell - have you bought anything pink yet?

Oh! Congratulations, once again. You couldn't be more correct. Learning the gender does instantly bring images to mind: like mother and daughter sharing tea, using your beautiful china set. The conversation is about passing the heirloom onto your "little girl" or purchasing the first pieces of a pattern all her own -- much the way your own mom did for you. Just one of the countless tender moments conjured in my mind from the love in your hearts ...
