Happy Halloween! I haven't participated much in this holiday the last few years, but all of the sudden I'm surrounded by costumes and pumpkins and candy all over the floor.
Because of our recent family complications, we haven't been exactly on the ball with Halloween preparations around here. I tried to take my nieces to get costumes at a local party store, but it was indescribable chaos. We all stared at each other wide-eyed and tried to stay skinny and out of the way in the packed aisles. It didn't take long before the 11-year-old announced it was time to leave. I heaved a sigh of relief and we headed to trusty ole' Wal-Mart.
They had plenty of adult costumes, but almost nothing left for kids. I know we shouldn't have waited until the last minute, but we had to do something. We ended up piecing together two pretty good options for the girls. Which means I was saying things along the lines of, "Here, why don't you wear vampire teeth. What about this cute wig?" and "Here's a plastic dagger. Carry that. It's scary."
There was
absolutely nothing for the littler kids, so my mom went to Target the next day. She found the same to be true but somehow ended up in the dog aisle, where there were perfectly darling costumes for medium-sized dogs. She is the type of visionary to think, "this will work!" so she bought a (super cute) pumpkin costume for her namesake, who is two years old.
She had to bust out the sewing machine to make two new arm holes, otherwise the face of the pumpkin would be on her back, but I don't think the neighbors suspected a thing.

Oh, that Donna! Ever the resourceful one. I think she looks DARLING!
(and Dacey is insistent that next year she will be a Pumpkin Witch for Halloween so I'm tucking away this little nugget in case I do have to create some such thing in the future. Hopefully she'll forget.)

The pumpkin suit was NOT in the dog aisle. The dog costumes were all mixed in with the children costumes. The pumpkin just jumped out at me. Everyone had said, before we left for our shopping trip, that Carrie Ann would be GREAT in a pumpkin suit. I just did what I was instructed to do, and it turned out especially cute!

Yes, Donna, I concur. I think she was probably the CUTEST pumpkin in the state last night!
